Few fans target a pitcher based on his bat. I've never heard anyone suggest that a team might improve its offense by adding pitcher who are better at swinging the bat. So I like to look at non-pitcher stats. This also allows more of an apples-to-apples comparison between leagues, what with the National League still playing in the DH-less dark ages and all. So let's start out by comparing the Cardinals' non-pitcher batting stats to the non-pitcher batting stats for MLB as a whole.
