JUPITER, Fla. -- Early on in the second official day of Cardinals Spring Training camp, Adam Wainwright gathered the media to address speculation over his future heading into the final year of his contract.
The 36-year-old admitted he considered retirement last season, when right elbow and back problems led to a career-high 5.11 ERA. For now, though, Wainwright said his focus is on the present.
"If you have a question about whether I'm retiring after this year, or if I'm thinking about retiring, or if I'm thinking about moving on with my life, or if I'm thinking about signing an extension, I'd love for you to ask that right now," Wainwright said.
