MILWAUKEE — The word manager Mike Shildt has latched onto this season for knowing what defines a player or a club and its core identity is “anchor,” and after a tempestuous Tuesday night at Miller Park that gave them a sinking feeling the Cardinals returned Wednesday to their twin constants:
The kind of team they must be to win.
The kind of team the standings say they are.
Once again tethered to .500 and unable to shake loose from its hold, the Cardinals split a doubleheader with Milwaukee on Wednesday at Miller Park. Supported by nifty baserunning, crisp timely hitting, and dashes of power from the offense, Adam Wainwright pitched a complete-game victory, 4-2, in Game 1.
