Surgery for Molina, rest for others

The other shoe dropped quickly Thursday, in regard to Yadier Molina’s injured left thumb. Two days after the end of the Cardinals’ National League division series, which wrapped up with Molina unable to play, the All-Star and Gold Glove catcher had surgery to repair the torn ligament in the thumb.

General manager John Mozeliak, who along with manager Mike Matheny, conducted a press conference Thursday at the end of the Cardinals’ postseason run, said Molina would have to refrain from baseball activity for eight to 12 weeks. “But he should be ready to go by spring training,” Mozeliak said.
