PHILADELPHIA • As if on cue, Cardinals starter Mike Leake walked two batters in the fourth inning and invited the Phillies to get a groundball here or a groundball there and tie the game.
Philadelphia did.
Howie Kendrick worked a leadoff walk in the fourth inning, and Aaron Altherr followed to move Kendrick into scoring position. The Cardinals' sinkerballer got a groundball that the Cardinals spun into a double play, but that allowed Kendrick to advance to third base.
The next groundball got through the middle, and the score is tied,1-1.
As mentioned below, that's the risk of the walks and of the Cardinals' failing to capitalize on other opportunities they've had in this game.
