JUPITER, Fla. — While inhaling a meatball sub at his favorite hometown sandwich shop, Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas offered an early scouting report on the newcomer he warmed up with Friday morning.
Most of the lefty’s throws were four-seam fastballs, firm and true, right at Mikolas’ chest, right where the righthander prefers them. The ritual of finding a good throwing partner can take a few days, some dress rehearsals. But a strong connection can catch on for an entire season. Mikolas had not tossed a ball before with Steven Matz, the Cardinals’ offseason addition to the rotation, and this impromptu throw was their introduction.
