Over the weekend, St. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Alex Reyes saw his Arizona Fall League experience come to an abrupt end. The reason was not immediately clear, and it wasn’t being discussed very extensively in local media.
The only significant mention of it I could find on the Twittersphere was posted Saturday by St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Joe Strauss:
“Hearing Alex Reyes’ abrupt shutdown after rough Friday AFL outing a 'sensitive' issue but not medically-related. #Developing”
Well, this afternoon it was announced that Reyes has been suspended 50 games for his second positive drug test in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
