St. Louis Cardinals: Poncedeleon called up, Wong’s knee sends him to DL

Kolten Wong had been beginning to rebound from his dreadful start to the season at the plate for the St. Louis Cardinals, slashing .288/.354/.479 over his past 23 games, bringing his season average up from .188 to .216. There were no injury reported when Wong sat out Sunday, so people assumed it was a day off.

Despite his struggles at the plate, he has still been valuable to the Cardinals based on what he has done on the field. He leads second baseman in most defensive metrics, including Defensive Runs Saved (DRS), Range Runs (rngR), which measures the runs saved based on a player’s ability to get to balls in his vicinity.
