Back around October 3 the Cardinals announced that the team would not reissue contracts to pitching coach Derek Lilliquist and bullpen coach Blaise Ilsley, leaving the doors open for speculation as to who would be hired for those newly open positions. While the baseball news cycle usually runs after the completion of the season (meaning, the World Series is over), this year, for whatever reason, clubs are making announcements all over the place.
On October 20 the Worshington Nationals announced that pitching coach Mike Maddux, who played fifteen seasons in the majors as a pitcher for nine different teams and has spent the last fourteen years as a coach for the Brewers, Rangers, and Nationals, would not be issued a contract for the 2018 season.
