In what could be described as one of the most necessary moves the St. Louis Cardinals could make, Jonathan Broxton has been designated for assignment. After posting an abysmal 6.89 ERA thus far this season, the Cardinals had no other choice. In removing Broxton from the team the Cardinals are on the hook for the remaining salary owed to him.
Coming up for the Cardinals to replace Broxton is John Gant. Gant was acquired this past off-season in a trade with the Braves for Jaime Garcia which also netted the Cardinals Luke Dykstra and Chris Ellis.
