Free-agent infielder Daniel Murphy is signing a two-year, $24 million contract with the Rockies, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Thursday. The club has not confirmed the deal.
Murphy, who turns 34 in April, missed the first two-plus months of last season recovering from microfracture surgery on his right knee. Though he got off to a slow start at the plate upon his return to the Nationals, he rebounded to finish the season with a .299/.336/.454 slash line and 12 home runs in 91 games. That included 35 games with the Cubs down the stretch after Washington traded him in August.
