An avenue for coaches who aspire to be managers continues to run through the Cardinals dugout as Skip Schumaker becomes the fourth consecutive bench coach to quickly advance to manager.
Schumaker is set to be named manager of the Miami Marlins, The Miami Herald reported Tuesday afternoon and another source confirmed.
Schumaker, 42, spent the past year as the Cardinals' bench coach, returning to the organization that drafted him, debuted him in the major leagues, and won championships with him as part of the lineup. He follows David Bell (Cincinnati), Mike Shildt (Cardinals), and Oliver Marmol (Cardinals) to go from being the Cardinals bench coach to a job as manager soon after.
