JUPITER, Fla. • Magneuris Sierra, the Cardinals’ 2014 minor league player of the year, has been brought over from the minor league side to start in center field Friday against the Atlanta Braves in an exhibition game.
Sierra, just 19, hit .315 at short-season Johnson City but only .191 at Class A Peoria last year. He had batted .386 for the Gulf Coast League affiliate the year before.
Carlos Martinez will make his first start of the spring for the Cardinals and both Jedd Gyorko and Aledmys Diaz are in the lineup but Gyorko, most often a second baseman in his career, is at shortstop, and Diaz, normally a shortstop, is at second base.
