MILWAUKEE • Carlos Martinez and Kevin Siegrist, who probably ranked in the top three of most reliable Cardinals pitchers last year, along with Seung Hwan Oh, probably are among the top three also this early season in a disappointing vein.
Martinez, failing to win for the fourth straight time, hasn’t made it past the sixth inning in his last three starts after a brilliant opening-night start against Chicago. He allowed a three-run shot in the first inning to Milwaukee’s Travis Shaw, then retired 11 in a row and then, after a single to Jonathan Villar in the fifth, surrendered a two-run, opposite-field homer to Eric Thames, the Brewers’ new Ruthian figure at first base.
