NEW YORK — The Cardinals’ search for ways to secure leads when they do find a way to have them in the late innings is leaning in a familiar direction.
Nearly four seasons removed from his last save in the majors, Jordan Hicks is moving in the direction of ninth-inning consideration as the Cardinals, buffeted again this past week by a blown save, are seeking reliable arms for the highest-leverage spots. The Cardinals fumbled a two-run lead Wednesday at Busch Stadium and lost to San Francisco in the 10th inning to give them as many saves this season (15) as they have blown saves (15).
