The happiest homecoming yet for Nationals ace Max Scherzer resulted in the righthander's club sweeping the Cardinals in a three-game home series for the first time since his club was called the Montreal Expos.
Scherzer, a St. Louis native and former Mizzou Tiger, notched his first win at Busch Stadium in the Nationals' 6-1 defeat of the Cardinals on Sunday. He allowed no runs on four hits, struck out nine and walked none.
Scherzer helped at the plate, too. He knocked two singles and executed the sacrifice bunt that helped the Nationals claim the lead they never let go.
