Cardinals All-Star closer Ryan Helsley knows there’s no scripting storybook endings when working out of the bullpen. His job description includes being ready to react at a moment’s notice and being tossed into high-intensity situations.
But if he were able to script an ending to the Cardinals weekend series with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Sunday night, he’d certainly have himself on the mound closing out a win for his club with his mother, Sherry, in the stands watching in person on Mother’s Day.
“That would be really cool,” Hesley said of the idea of delivering that unique Mother’s Day gift.
