Throughout an injury-riddled first half of the 2015 season, the St. Louis Cardinals haven’t shied from dipping into their minor league system for reinforcements.
In June, Xavier Scruggs and Greg Garcia were promoted to bolster the offense. Then Tommy Pham was called up for a much-needed spark in the outfield. Tim Cooney and Tyler Lyons have made regular appearances on the mound for the Cardinals as Jaime Garcia has battled groin issues.
“We had a lot of (roster) movement, and that’s not unusual at this level, but we had to get comfortable with that and had to know it was going to happen all year,” Class AAA Memphis manager Mike Shildt said.
