LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. •The quest to acquire startiing pitching is “not a huge focus for us,” said Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak on Tuesday. That stated, Mozeliak said two young crackerjack starters in the system could begin their seasons in the bullpen, one at the major league level in Alex Reyes and the other Sandy Alcantara, who ended last season in the majors as a reliever.
“A lot of things have been written about us being connected to things,” said Mozeliak during a break at the general managers’ meetings. “It’s not that we’re going to ignore the starting pitching market but right now we have enough starters.
