JUPITER, Fla. • Two outfielders who, so far, figure to provide depth at Class AAA Memphis this season, brought the Cardinals from two runs down into a 3-2 lead in the eighth inning of Saturday’s exhibition game.
First, Carlos Peguero, a 29-year-old, 6-foot-5 flyhawk who has been with four American League clubs, doubled and scored the Cardinals’ first run in the top of the seventh and then, from right field, threw out a runner at home in the bottom of the seventh. Peguero has two doubles in three games.
Then, Anthony Garica, one of four unrelated Garcias in camp, smacked his third double of the spring, a two-run shot inside the third-base bag, to drive in the tying and go-ahead runs in the eighth as the Cardinals jumped past the Miami Marlins.
