PITTSBURGH — As part of layoffs and non-renewals that began this week to reduce costs in the baseball operations office, the Cardinals put some programs on indefinite hold and began rethinking their minor-league staff and scouting approach for the uncertainties ahead.
The Cardinals had more than two dozen staff reductions on the business, ballpark, and baseball sides of their operation this week as they near the final month of their fiscal year. At least 12 members of the Cardinals’ minor-league coaching staffs and one area scout did not have their contracts renewed for 2021. Several former big-leaguers who assist the front office had their positions eliminated or revised.
