Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright knows well the questions mounting around his uncharacteristically flawed start to the season. He’s read them. He’s heard them. He’s had some himself. And he’s addressed them with confidence and conviction, promises of improvement.
He just hasn’t dispelled them with results.
For the second time in a week, Wainwright misplaced a comfortable lead and again had a game crater on him. The Cincinnati Reds rallied from a four-run deficit to bruise Wainwright with seven runs and 10 hits before holding on for a 9-8 victory Saturday at Busch Stadium. In a team-high three starts this season, Wainwright has yet to see the seventh inning, yet to allow fewer than 10 baserunners, and yet to leave a game with the lead.
