Marco Gonzales, considered by many to be the Cardinals’ “6th starter” heading into the season (after pitching well enough in spring training to perhaps earn a spot in the rotation when the team left Florida), made his first appearance Saturday since April 20, and it was less than an auspicious outing. Gonzales, who was shut down after his 3rd start of the campaign due to tightness in his left pectoral muscle, threw 56 pitches, 34 for strikes, in a 2.1 inning performance that featured a lot of hard contact and not many missed bats. Gonzales didn’t record a strikeout and walked one in his final inning of work.
