Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr., offered most of the pertinent statistics about the career of the late Cardinals great, Red Schoendienst, as he spoke at Schoendienst’s funeral mass at the Cathedral Basilica on Friday. The one that seemed to intrigue DeWitt the most, though, was that Hall of Famer Schoendienst, as player, coach, manager and adviser, had spent 67 years in a Cardinals uniform before dying at age 95 last week.
Also, many fan favorites of past years were on hand, including Cardinals Hall of Famers Jim Edmonds, Ted Simmons and Willie McGee, as well as John Tudor, Tom Lawless, Dave LaPoint, Glenn Brummer, Brad Thompson, Jason Isringhausen, Ken Dayley, Rick Horton, John Costello, Ken Reitz, Mike Tyson, Ted Sizemore, Al Hrabosky, Ted Savage, former trainer Gene Gieselmann and Carole Buck, widow of Hall of Fame announcer Jack Buck.
