MIAMI • While most pitchers are looking for an uptick in their velocities, the Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright was trying to dial it down Tuesday night. Way down.
In the first two innings, the heretofore struggling Wainwright dusted off his slow curveball, with offerings as low as 66 miles an hour. For four innings anyway, it seemed to work.
He allowed just two hits and the Cardinals' infield turned its eighth and ninth ground-ball double plays in the last three games as the contest with the Miami Marlins went scoreless to the bottom of the fourth.
