Rain, rain won't go away, so Cardinals will play home opener another day

The postponement will not change the Cardinals’ pitching plans against San Diego for the first game of 2019 at Busch Stadium — Jack Flaherty will get his first career home opener — but it could lead to changes later in the home stand. Dakota Hudson pitched in relief Wednesday night in Pittsburgh, getting his first major-league save in the Cards’ 5-4 victory, and his planned start next week against the Dodgers likely is to be moved back a day.

Major League Baseball sets aside insurance days in the opening weeks of the season so teams can reschedule openers around poor weather and not lose events.
