Scouting report • The Cardinals, coming off a sweep of the Atlanta Braves, continue their road trip with a three-game series in Miami against the Marlins. The Cardinals’ three wins over the weekend gave them a record of 16-14 on the season and leave them half a game behind the first-place Cincinnati Reds.
First baseman Matt Carpenter was the hero in the Cardinals’ sweep, hitting a home run in each of their three games. Carpenter now leads the team in home runs with seven, surpassing third baseman Jedd Gyorko. Additionally, outfielder Tommy Pham, recently called up from Triple-A Memphis following the injury to Stephen Piscotty, made his season debut in Friday’s opener and has already hit three home runs.
