Piscotty working out at first base

CHICAGO • Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak confirmed that Stephen Piscotty, the organization's top hitting prospect, was removed from Memphis’ lineup on Tuesday because he was being considered for promotion to St. Louis.

Lefthanded-hitting first baseman Dan Johnson got the call-up, and Piscotty — a righthanded-hitting outfielder — remained in Memphis. But Piscotty will see more time at first base, where the Cardinals are seeking more production at the major-league level. He has been working out at the position, and Mozeliak said that within the week Piscotty should start appearing there in games.

Piscotty was drafted as a third baseman and played corner infield spots at Stanford.
