CHICAGO • It wasn't all that productive, but Stephen Piscotty's first at-bat in the majors was certainly memorable.
With the bases loaded and the Cardinals already leading 1-0, Piscotty took swings on the first three pitches he saw. At one point, third-base coach Jose Oquendo got his attention and gave him the sign to calm down. Piscotty struck out, but it was how the final pitch glanced off his cleat and skipped away from catcher Geovany Soto that caused the commotion.
Piscotty raced for first, though why isn't exactly clear. With one out and first base occupied it wasn't like he had a chance to take first.
