PITTSBURGH • The Cardinals had only one hit in 10 at-bats with a man in scoring position Sunday night. But Randal Grichuk's two-run double off Arquimedes Caminero in the 10th inning appeared to give the Cardinals enough traction to put away the Pittsburgh Pirates in the finale of a contested four-game series.
But closer Trevor Rosenthal, who had blown just one of 27 save opportunities this season, had little left after working 1 1/3 innings on Saturday.
The Cardinals couldn't get eighth-place hitter Gregory Polanco out all night long and they didn't in the 10th either as Polanco's hit with the bases loaded was the Pirates' fifth of the inning off Rosenthal and provided a stunning 6-5 victory over the Cardinals.
