The Pirates grabbed a quick lead, scoring a run in the top of the first to go up 1-0 on the Cardinals in the first game of their three-game series at Busch Stadium.
Starling Marte, who came into the game 12 for 31 in his past seven games against the Cardinals, doubled into the left-field corner with one out. Andrew McCutchen, just named the NL player of the week on Monday, struck out looking. Aramis Ramirez was hit by a pitch from Carlos Martinez and then Jung Ho Kang doubled into the right field corner, scoring Marte. Ramirez was held at third, and he finished the inning there when Neil Walker grounded out to first.
