Through five innings Saturday night at Busch Stadium, the Cardinals had scored only one run total in two nights against two Pittsburgh starters who had come to town with a collective 3-11 record.
But, when Pirates lefthander Dillon Peters (0-1) came out of the game after five with a 2-1 lead, the Cardinals rallied for two quick runs in the sixth only to have lefthanded bullpen ace Genesis Cabrera allow runs for the first time in 16 games when he surrendered three in the seventh inning as the Pirates took their third lead of the night.
It would be the last lead the Pirates would need as they held on for a 5-4 victory, giving them two wins in two nights here, or one more victory than they had had in their previous 14 games.
