After reaching base seven times in two games as a leadoff man against an opposing lefthander, Tommy Pham reached base all five times Tuesday when he batted second. Manager Mike Matheny liked what he saw on both counts but, with another lefthander pitching for New York in Steven Matz, he moved Pham to leadoff and gave Matt Carpenter (.167) a night off Wednesday.
Pham lasted all of one at-bat, coming out of the game in the third inning with a cut to his head. He was in the indoor batting cage getting ready for his at-bat and using a resistance band.
