JUPITER, Fla. • Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta, who played in 155 games last year, left camp Monday morning apparently to have his left hand, injured on Saturday during an exhibition game, looked at.
Derrick Goold tweeted that Peralta had a torn ligament in his left hand and could face a lengthy absence.
It is possible Peralta will return to St. Louis for further examination but general manager John Mozeliak will address the matter in a half hour.
Matt Holliday, set back in his initial attempt to play first base on Saturday because of lower back tightness, is slated to start for the first time Monday against the New York Mets.
