The Cardinals, coming off an 0-7 road trip that dropped them into fourth place in the National League Central, made a series of player and coaching moves on Friday, the most prominent of which was designating infielder Jhonny Peralta for assignment.
Among the coaches, third-base coach Chris Maloney was reassigned and replaced by Mike Shildt, who was the quality control coach. Assistant hitting coach Bill Mueller was given a leave of absence.
