ATLANTA -- Piecing together available and effective arms to garner the final outs of a game remains a daily puzzle for manager Mike Shildt, who will be without two of his most trusted late-inning relievers on Tuesday in the second game of the Cardinals' three-game series at SunTrust Park.
Carlos Martinez, who's taken the title of closer, likely won't enter in a save situation after pitching in each of the previous two games. Not only has he not thrown on three consecutive days since sliding into a relief role in August, he labored through a 32-pitch appearance on Monday, walking three before wiggling out of a bases-loaded jam.
