EXPECTATIONS
Left fielder Matt Holliday, at age 36, may not be the focal point of the offense anymore, but he still probably is the most feared hitter in the lineup. Plagued by two quadriceps tears last year, Holliday was held to 73 games but seems primed for a comeback this season. Perhaps he isn’t the consistent 25-homer man he once was, but if Holliday can play 140 games and drive in 90 or so runs, that would be the tonic for a Cardinals offense that averaged just four runs a game last season. Holliday doesn’t have great range, but he almost always throws to the right base and generally hangs on to what he runs down.
