It took a few decades longer than it should have, but the Cleveland Indians finally have taken an important step forward by dumping their demeaning — if not racist — Chief Wahoo logo.
As the New York Times first reported Monday morning, the Indians will drop the stereotypical Native American caricature as a logo on their uniforms by the start of the 2019 season.
It should go without saying that sports teams should not use racist caricatures of Native Americans as mascots, but obviously some teams and fans don’t mind perpetuating negative stereotypes and appropriating other cultures.
