As the Busch Stadium crowd’s standing ovation extended close to a minute Wednesday afternoon, the chorus inside the Cardinals’ dugout also grew louder and more demanding in the fifth inning.
“Give the crowd what they want! Give the crowd what they want! Give the crowd what they want!” Michael Wacha and most of the Cardinals yelled at center fielder Dexter Fowler.
Sure enough, Fowler gave the crowd what they wanted after his second home run of the day. He climbed up the steps and out of the dugout to oblige the crowd with his first curtain call as a member of the Cardinals.
