ST. LOUIS • The reorganization of Mike Matheny's coaching staff will include the return of Jose Oquendo as third-base coach and the addition of fan favorite Willie McGee.
The Cardinals moved Mike Shildt, who served as third-base coach and quality control coach this past season, to bench coach. That was the first domino in a string of moves announced Monday afternoon by the team on its main Twitter feed.
The discussion of Oquendo's return was reported in Saturday's Post-Dispatch.
McGee's title is not mentioned in the announcement.
Ron "Pop" Warner will return to his role assistant field coordinator, a position he had briefly before joining the major-league staff during the 2017 season.
