For the second time in five years, Wacha came inches shy of doing what one other Cardinals pitcher has in the city of St. Louis in nearly a century. Staked to an early lead by Marcell Ozuna’s grand slam and on the way to a 5-0 win, Wacha took a no-hitter into the ninth inning at Busch Stadium. On Wacha’s 111th and final pitch, Pittsburgh pinch-hitter Colin Moran lined a single over a Kolten Wong’s glove to again deny the righthander a spot beside Bob Forsch in team lore.
Wacha (7-1) won his seventh consecutive decision to end a wild weekend series against the rival Pirates that included two walk-off home runs and his dalliance with legend.
