The Cardinals began to reveal their pitching machinations Thursday by announcing Daniel Poncedeleon will, as advertised, return to start Saturday’s game against Cincinnati. Manager Mike Shildt also revealed that Sunday’s start is now “TBA,” leaving open the possibility that rookie Jack Flaherty will be bumped back a day to face Washington and another pitcher, possibly Luke Weaver or Tyson Ross, would tag in Sunday. Although available for Sunday, Wainwright said his understanding is he’ll start once more for Class AAA Memphis before returning to the majors.
The Cardinals’ righthander experienced a setback during his rehab appearance Tuesday, and that jarred him from a schedule that would have made him available for Sunday’s game.
