LAKELAND, Fla. — When Paul DeJong sent a ball hurtling 455 feet and past deep center field this past week for a home run at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, he finished his swing with a one-handed grasp on the bat.
It was the result he sought, but the finish he’d worked to erase.
“If I hit a hanging slider with two hands, that is going to be a really good swing, I think,” he said. “I’m balanced. I’m not overextended at all. Ideally, I’m going to swing and finish with two hands, if I can.
