ST. LOUIS — The latest Cardinals loss hit hard because the way it happened, it extended another losing slide, and the fact it just makes the hole they’d already dug for themselves even deeper.
It also underscored the club’s seeming lack of an identity. That lack of identity or their lack of execution may soon become the calling card of this year’s Cardinals.
A fifth consecutive home loss and a series sweep at the hands of the San Francisco Giants at Busch Stadium did nothing to help this club find solid footing. The Cardinals fell 8-5 in 10 innings, their fourth extra-inning loss of the season in six games.
