It had been 25 days shy of a year since Cardinals starter Dakota Hudson had been a winning pitcher and it will be a while longer before he will have that designation. There is no disputing he pitched a winning game Friday night against the Cincinnati Reds but it did him little good as the Cardinals experienced something they hadn’t experienced in 108 years.
Hudson was pulled one out short of the five-inning qualifying mark for the victory because he had thrown 74 pitches, a total manager Mike Shildt felt was quite enough for almost any pitcher who had missed some three weeks because of team quarantines.
