Cardinal Surprises
The biggest surprise to me is the addition of Ponce de Leon. While well qualified to serve as a long reliever, his only being used twice since making a spot start in the September 1st doubleheader made me think Shildt didn’t have him in his plans. I did not believe that Shildt would pull the trigger in leaving John Gant off of the roster, despite it being the right move with his struggles with walks.
