In his first start sans his white hair extensions, Carlos Martinez is on a roll.
The flamethrowing right-hander has faced the minimum through three innings, having not allowed a Brewers baserunner. In addition, Martinez has struck out one Milwaukee hitter while throwing just 30 pitches.
Martinez said he had been looking for some better luck after his 0-3 start (4.71 ERA) so he ditched the extensions earlier this week.
On offense, the Cardinals have been silent. First baseman Matt Carpenter lined a first-inning double and catcher Yadier Molina drew a walk in the second, but neither was able to score.
