ST. LOUIS -- In the grand scheme of things, it's not uncommon for new relievers to arrive in April. The rhythm of modern roster churn begins sometimes as soon as teams head north. Games begin and bullpens become taxed. Temperatures drop and muscles tweak. Options become misnomers, used out of necessity. Eight games in, the Cardinals already summoned two extra arms from Triple-A Memphis.
But neither sports the pedigree of Greg Holland. Few do. Which is why Holland's initial appearance in the Cardinals' clubhouse was notable, for its timing alone.
"Different," the All-Star closer called it Monday, when the club activated him prior to opening a three-game set with Milwaukee.
