MIAMI _ Former Cardinal Pat Neshek is an All-Star rarity in that he has made two All-Star teams, basically as a middle reliever. He sets up and occasionally closes for the Philadelphia Phillles but is likely to be working for a contender before much longer.
Neshek said on Monday that he didn’t think he would be chosen a second time as a non-closing reliever after his first selection in 2014 when he was the losing pitcher for the National League in the game in Minneapolis. “You’re kind of nuts as a middle reliever thinking you’re going to make it,” the 36-year-old righthander said.
