The Washington Nationals scored early and late to beat the Cardinals 6-1 at Busch Stadium on Saturday.
The win gave the Nationals their first back-to-back road wins against the Cardinals in the same season since the franchise moved from Montreal to Washington.
The Nationals scored four times in the first inning off Cardinals starter Jaime Garcia, who otherwise pitched well. Jayson Werth followed a run-scoring single by Daniel Murphy with a three-run homer to stake the Nats to a 4-0 lead before the Cardinals picked up a bat.
"It's been kind of that way," manager Mike Matheny said.
